cPanel Cloudflare Origin SSL - How to Install This Certificate in cPanel

You may be wondering if cPanel Cloudflre Origin SSL is necessary to secure your website. Well, it is! In this article, we will look at how to install this certificate in cPanel. This SSL certificate is issued by Cloudflare and is an alternative to Let's Encrypt. However, if you prefer the reliability and security of a commercial certificate, you should opt for Cloudflare SSL.

There are two options to secure your connection to Cloudflare: Flexible SSL and Full SSL. Flexible SSL lets you make a secure connection between your Cloudflare domain and your web server without requiring an SSL certificate. However, you must make sure that the SSL certificate on your web server is trusted and has a future expiry date. Full mode ensures that the connection between your Cloudflare domain and your origin server is encrypted and secured.

To install cPanel Cloudflare Origin SSL you must update the DNS nameservers of your domain. To do this, log in to your domain registrar and change the nameservers. The process will take a few minutes. Once done, click on the blue "Check nameservers" button to see if your domain has been changed. The new nameservers will then be displayed.

If you're not sure which DNS record type to use, visit the Cloudflare website. You'll find a list of all the available DNS records. You'll need to add an A or AAAA record, a CNAME record, and other necessary settings. Afterward, you must enable Cloudflare API. If you're not sure, check out the Cloudflare documentation to find out more about this important feature.

The next step involves configuring the origin server for SSL. Ensure that you have an Origin CA certificate installed on your origin web server. Make sure you've updated your certificate to Full (strict) encryption mode. This step is necessary because a revoked certificate cannot be undone. However, you can always re-enable Universal SSL if you're not willing to purchase or upgrade to the paid version.

To make sure that your web server is protected, use the Cloudflare dashboard to add a new DNS record. Log in to the Cloudflare dashboard and select the appropriate domain for your site. Enter your subdomain or root domain in the field provided. You can have different permissions for each account. You can also configure your DNS records differently. You can even use more than one Cloudflare account.
