The British Shorthair cat is a pedigreed version of the traditional domestic cat of Britain. This pedigreed breed has a short, stocky body, dense coat, and broad, round face. The British Blue is the most common colour variant, with solid grey-blue fur, orange eyes, and a medium-sized tail. The British Blue has an unusually long, thick tail, and is one of the most popular colour varieties.
Because British shorthair cat are naturally energetic, they need a scratching post to exercise. If you try to groom your cat too often, it may stop scratching as much. This means that your British Shorthair may not shed its old claw sheaths as much as other cats and may develop ingrown claws. You may need to clip the claws of your British Shorthair as often as necessary, but be sure to do so carefully.
If your British Shorthair is a cat that sleeps alone, it may be a nuisance at night. It might be younger, or it might be simply unsettled. A play session prior to bedtime can help a British Shorthair calm down. During the day, the cat will need to be exercised to get the energy it needs to get through the night. If it doesn't sleep well, it may not be able to sleep as much.
